The Halal Food Control Division, Syariah Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs informed that it had received a complaint regarding a food product, La Pasta Carbonara Flavour Pasta and Sauce from San Remo brand, which was sold in one of the supermarkets in the country and its dubious halal status.
Laboratory analysis was conducted by the Department of Scientific Services, Ministry of Health and the test results confirmed that the product contained porcine DNA. To protect the welfare of Muslim community in the country, the Syariah Affairs Department has instructed supermarket and retail store owners as well as other business premises in the country selling the La Pasta Carbonara Flavour Pasta and Sauce product from San Remo brand, produced by San Remo Macaroni, Australia, to immediately separate the product and place it under the non-halal section. Owners, managers, entrepreneurs, traders, importers, suppliers and distributors are ALSO REMINDED to always be vigilant and more sensitive in the management of non-halal products and goods at all stages of handling including during importation, storage in warehouses or storage areas, transportation, internal handling and sales at business premises.
